The University of Wisconsin–Madison Badger Talks program reflects the tradition of the Wisconsin Idea — to extend the resources of the University to citizens of the state. We connect faculty and staff from hundreds of different disciplines with communities throughout the state to spark conversations on important topics, engage residents on critical issues, and share the latest UW research. To count for advanced training hours, please select topics that are relevant to the Master Naturalist subject areas: natural history, human connections, Master Naturalist service (education, citizen science, stewardship), geology, ecology, weather and climate, plant communities, wildlife, water, and aquatic life

Bat Roost Counters sit near the locations of our bat houses beside the Barn at Hunt Hill at dusk. They count the bats as they emerge, providing use with data about how many bats are using the bat houses at different times throughout the summer. Bat Roost Counters do not come in contact with bats. 1 hour per count. You chose the frequency. The more frequent the counts, the better data we have. We aim for a minimum of two counts per summer on the pre-volancy and post-volancy count weekends, but we would like more if possible. No prior experience necessary. We can provide the training to get you started. Priority on the prevolancy weekend (June 5-7) and the post-volancy weekend (July 10-12)

This presentation is designed for individuals who lead nature-related field trips and outings, regardless of topic! Jane Whitney, an award-winning Wisconsin Master Naturalist who has led numerous hikes each week for many years in Door County, will give a presentation in Madison to share tips and techniques for leading high-quality, inclusive, and engaging field trips.
After leading more hikes than she can count, Jane has accumulated a few ideas and tips on how to lead a hike and capture your audience. We'll cover what works as well as what might not work, how to start and finish, what to do in the middle, how to manage the group (without their knowing you're managing them), how to handle mixed groups of kids and adults, and how to answer difficult questions.
In part 2, Rachael Lewandowski-Sarette, On-site and Accessibility Coordinator of Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center in Wisconsin Dells, and an award-winning nature educator, will share information with field trip leaders about how they can make outings more accessible, informative, and safe for everyone. She will describe best practices on sharing trail information, supporting mobility device access (wheelchairs, for example), thinking about resting points, incorporating multiple senses, and more.

To assist and/or lead any and all activities at Richard Bong State Recreational Area (RBSRA). Be it as a Steward, a citizen scientist, an educator. This is a general call for help in making RBSRA a better place for the general public. To educate, motivate, excite adults, kids to/of/for the joys of Wisconsin and the outdoors in general. Bong has over 4600 acres of land in Kenosha County and needs leaders to assist and promote. Pick your passion and I will help you make things happen there (and beyond). Get started on Wednesdays, 9 AM at our Visitors Center. We call it Workday Wednesdays. Email bongnaturalistassociation@gmail.com for details or visit bongnaturalistassociation.org

Youth summer day camps have been a long-standing tradition at Hunt Hill! Our day camps typically feature environmental-themed learning activities, games, swimming, and crafts in small, age-appropriate groups. Camps are interactive and led by a team of trained and enthusiastic educators. Day camps are Monday through Thursday from 9:00am to 4:00pm, with camper drop-off starting at 8:30am.
